The Friends of Czech Historic Buildings, Gardens and Parks Need Your Help!
We have successfully completed a number of restoration projects and have others in development. We are now keen to expand our organisation and its activities and would welcome offers of voluntary help and support from anyone with an enthusiasm for or an expertise in Czech culture, history, arts and architecture. We need help with researching and identifying potential funding sources, devising and running fundraising projects, establishing and widening professional and community networks and contacts in the Czech Republic and around the world. We appreciate local knowledge when looking for new and suitable restoration projects and endeavour to generate good publicity for any business - large or small - willing to get involved. We are appealing to all, including students who need work experience. We need your special skills, creative ideas, time and enthusiasm to help us in our quest to contribute to the restoration of our common European heritage. If you are interested please email: info@czechfriends.net or download a job description here.
Who we are
The charity was founded in 2007 by Barbara Peacock and Ian Kennaway. The committee now includes people active in art history, architecture, the law, engineering and PR. All are admirers of what the Czech Republic has to offer, and give their time to help with the fundraising and conservation work.
Barbara writes: "I have led numerous groups on architectural tours to see buildings in Britain and abroad, but nothing prepared me for the astonishing variety, quality and sheer number of houses that I was to discover in the Czech lands in the years following the Velvet Revolution of 1989. The Czech Republic is a small country, with limited funds. Their enterprise and determination to restore the damage of the past inspired me, together with Ian Kennaway and other colleagues, to set up the Friends of Czech Historic Buildings, Gardens and Parks, to help in some small way to fund restoration projects for the country. We are grateful to all those who have who have supported us so warmly in this enterprise. Please join us in this work."
