The restoration of the Banqueting Hall in the Château of Uherčice in Moravia is our largest-ever grant and the largest sum towards its restoration so far. It came about as a result of a legacy. The monies are to go towards the restoration of historic interiors to enable their use as recital and concert spaces. An executor of the will had visited Uherčice with our former Vice Chairman Barbara Peacock some years ago and invited our charity to make a case. We were able to show that the space had already been used for concerts by the Znojmo Music Festival in 2009 - 2011, see film clip below. The room itself is in need of a lot of work but the whole château, which belongs to the State, has been reroofed by the National Heritage Institute of the Czech Republic.

The first speaker in the film clip is Pavlina Senić, a singer in the State Opera in Prague, in which she expresses her delight at the efforts to restore in this beautiful painted room and her desire to do further work. Senić trained at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. The second speaker is Miroslava Němcová, Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament, Czech Republic, whose comments on our work you may read at the bottom of the page here. The concert ended with a wine auction in aid of the continuing restoration of this beautiful room. The grant that we are giving will restore all the remaining windows and help with other works needed to facilitate future concerts.
In July a third fundraising concert was held in the Banqueting Hall as part of the Hudba Znojmo Festival 2011
Pavlína Senić and the Collegium of the Czech Philharmonic performed under Václav Postránecký. The concert was held under the auspices of Miroslava Němcová, as above.
